Psychologists in Browns Plains
Finding a psychologist is rarely a straightforward decision. Most people who contact us have been thinking about it for a while — sometimes months — before they pick up the phone. If that’s you, you’re in good company, and there’s no need to have it all worked out before you call.
Our Browns Plains clinic sits within Browns Plains Family Medical Centre, an established holistic medical practice on Commerce Dr. It’s a familiar, practical setting — easy parking, a GP practice many locals already know, and no need to explain to anyone why you’re walking in. For some people that matters a great deal.
Who We Support
We work with young people and adults across the Logan area. People come to us for all sorts of reasons — some with a clear sense of what they’d like to change, others simply knowing that something isn’t sitting right.
- Adults navigating anxiety, low mood, stress and burnout, grief, trauma, relationship strain, or a period of change that’s harder than expected
- Young people from around age 12 managing school pressure, friendships, identity, anxiety, anger or low self-esteem
- Couples working through conflict, disconnection or a difficult patch
- Veterans, first responders and their families, including trauma-informed support for PTSD and complex trauma
- Neurodivergent people — including ADHDers and autistic clients — looking for support that works with how their brain actually operates, rather than against it

A note on assessments. We can support ADHDers and autistic clients at Browns Plains, but psychology assessments are only conducted at our Springwood clinic. The same applies to occupational therapy and speech pathology. Springwood is about fifteen minutes up the M1, and if you start with us at Browns Plains and an assessment would be useful, we’ll organise that internally rather than sending you off to start again somewhere new.
Meet the Browns Plains Team
Two experienced clinicians consult from Browns Plains.
Laura Robinson — Accredited Mental Health Social Worker
Available at Browns Plains on Tuesdays
Laura has over ten years of social work experience gained as a school counsellor, a drug and alcohol counsellor, and an accredited mental health social worker in private psychology clinics. She works predominantly with young people from around age 12 and with adults.
Laura works from a strengths-based, person-centred approach and provides a non-judgemental space where each person feels safe, heard and supported. She commonly supports people with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, grief and loss, anger, relationship conflict, alcohol and other drug concerns, and difficulties at work including recovery from injury and return-to-work. Her practice draws on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, supportive counselling and motivational interviewing.
Elizabeth Archer-Trew — Senior Psychologist
Available at Browns Plains on Thursdays and Fridays
Elizabeth is a highly experienced psychologist with over ten years of clinical experience supporting adults and couples across private practice and multidisciplinary healthcare settings. Before joining Capability Psychology & Wellness she owned and operated her own private psychology practice for more than a decade.
She works with anxiety, depression, trauma, workplace stress, relationship difficulties, adjustment concerns, anger management and family challenges, and has significant experience supporting veterans and their families with trauma-informed therapy for PTSD and complex trauma. Elizabeth draws on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, psychoeducation and trauma-informed approaches, developing individualised plans that reflect each client’s goals, strengths and circumstances.
You can read Laura’s and Elizabeth’s full profiles, along with the rest of our clinicians, on our team page.
Why People Choose Our Browns Plains Clinic
It’s genuinely easy to get to. Commerce Dr is a short drive from Grand Plaza, with free off-street parking right at the door. No meters, no circling the block, no arriving flustered.
Being inside a medical practice is discreet. Walking into a medical centre is unremarkable. Nobody knows whether you’re seeing a GP, a nurse or a psychologist — and for people who feel self-conscious about starting therapy, that privacy genuinely helps.
Your care can be joined up. If your GP is in the same building, or elsewhere, communication is straightforward. We’re registered with Medical Objects, so referrals and reports move securely between providers without you having to chase them.
You’re seeing experienced clinicians. Both Laura and Elizabeth have more than a decade of practice behind them. This isn’t a location staffed by whoever was available.
You’re not starting from scratch if your needs change. Browns Plains is one of two clinics. If an assessment, occupational therapy or speech pathology turns out to be useful, that’s arranged within the same team at Springwood.
The approach is neuro-affirming and evidence-based. Those two things aren’t in tension. We use therapies with good evidence behind them, delivered in a way that respects how you’re wired rather than treating difference as something to be corrected.
Browns Plains or Springwood?
The two clinics are genuinely different places, and it’s worth knowing which suits you.
Browns Plains is a consulting space within an established medical practice. It’s convenient, discreet and straightforward, and it’s where you’ll see Laura or Elizabeth for psychology, counselling and mental health social work on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Springwood is our primary clinic — a purpose-built, eight-room, neuro-affirming space with sensory-friendly rooms and a nature-based therapy garden. It’s home to our full multidisciplinary team, all assessments, occupational therapy and speech pathology, and it’s the better choice for children and for anyone who’d benefit from a calmer sensory environment.
Areas We Service
Our Browns Plains clients come from across the surrounding suburbs — Regents Park, Hillcrest, Heritage Park, Boronia Heights, Crestmead, Marsden, Park Ridge, Forestdale and Greenbank among them. If you’re anywhere in the southern Logan area, we’re likely closer than you’d expect.
Clients north of Browns Plains sometimes find our Springwood clinic more convenient, particularly if they’re travelling from Underwood, Rochedale or Daisy Hill.

Common Questions
What days is the Browns Plains clinic open?
We consult from Browns Plains on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 8:00am to 4:30pm. Our phones are answered Monday to Friday, so you can call to book on any weekday.
Can I get an ADHD or autism assessment at Browns Plains?
Not at Browns Plains — all of our assessments are conducted at the Springwood clinic. We can absolutely provide ongoing therapy and support at Browns Plains for people who already have a diagnosis or identify as neurodivergent.
Do I need a referral to see a psychologist at Browns Plains?
No. You’re welcome to contact us directly. A GP referral under a Mental Health Treatment Plan allows you to claim a Medicare rebate, so it’s worth having if you can — but it isn’t a requirement, and plenty of our clients see us privately.
How do I know which clinic to book at?
For psychology, counselling and mental health social work, choose whichever is easier to get to. For assessments, occupational therapy, speech pathology, or for younger children, Springwood is the right clinic. If you’re not sure, call us and we’ll work it out with you.
What happens in the first session?
Mostly talking and listening. Your clinician will ask about what’s brought you in, what you’ve already tried, and what you’d like to be different. You don’t need to prepare anything, and you won’t be pushed to discuss more than you’re ready to.
Is there a wait for an appointment?
It varies by clinician and by what you need. Give us a call and we’ll tell you honestly where things stand rather than putting you on an indefinite list.
Can I have a look before committing?
Yes — we offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. It’s a chance to describe what’s going on, ask questions, and get a feel for whether we’re the right fit. There’s no obligation at the end of it.
