Autism Assessment & Support
Autism assessments help build a clearer, more compassionate understanding of how someone experiences and interacts with the world — their sensory needs, communication style, social preferences and genuine strengths. Whether you’re seeking an assessment for your child or yourself, or looking for ongoing support after a diagnosis, we’re here to make the process feel respectful, comfortable and collaborative from start to finish.
Our Neuro-Affirming Approach
Autism assessment and diagnosis are best conducted by professionals with specialised training and genuine familiarity with autism — that’s exactly what our team provides. We approach every assessment from a strengths-based, neuro-affirming perspective, recognising autism as a natural variation in how people think, feel and experience the world, not something to be “fixed.”
If your GP suspects autism, they may refer you to a psychologist for further evaluation — but a referral isn’t required to book with us directly. We assess children, teens and adults, tailoring the process to the person in front of us.
What the Assessment Involves
- Observing the individual across different settings, or gathering information about their characteristics in various contexts
- Exploring relevant family, developmental, school and other pertinent history
- Standardised screening and assessment tools alongside clinical evaluation
- Cognitive assessment where relevant, to supplement the diagnostic picture
- Input from family, carers or teachers where appropriate
An autism diagnosis can open the door to NDIS funding, school supports and a deeper understanding of oneself — but just as importantly, the process itself is designed to feel safe, validating and genuinely collaborative.
Ongoing Support
Whether or not a formal assessment is the right step for you, our psychologists and occupational therapists can support autistic children, teens and adults with sensory processing, emotional regulation, social participation, executive functioning and everyday independence — always from a strengths-based, respectful perspective.
Frequently Asked Questions
What age can someone be assessed for autism?
We assess children, teens and adults — the specific approach and tools used depend on age and individual circumstances. Get in touch and we can talk through what’s right for your situation.
Do I need a referral for an autism assessment?
No formal referral is required to book directly with us, though your GP may also refer you if autism is suspected.
Will the assessment use deficit-based language?
No. We approach every assessment from a neuro-affirming, strengths-based perspective — the goal is genuine understanding, not labelling someone by what they struggle with.
How much does an autism assessment cost?
Costs vary depending on individual needs. We offer a free intake call to talk through your situation, explain your options and give you clear pricing before you commit to anything.
